Weekend Music

February 15, 2014 ReviewsVideos  No comments

It's Monday, the day of new releases in Europe. I wasn't online this weekend, so I went through some older music I hadn't had a chance to listen to yet. On Saturday I was doing some translations, so I wanted to choose music that wouldn't be too lyrical or attention grabbing. Something more like background music, to make this unexciting task more pleasurable. I started with Autechre and their only album I have (I might have more elsewhere, but not on my latop right now) - the 2008 Quaristice. It was calm enough and easy to listen to while doing a difficult and attention consuming task such as translating. I found the album very minimal, which is something I like. But somehow, unlike other albums I like listening to while studying or reading (one of my favourite ones for this is

Tame Impala form a new band to help friend

Tame Impala

Aren't Tame Impala just adorable?

Not only did they quickly form a new band a few hours before actually performing live to help a friend raise money for a new car after hers got stolen, but they did it in such a charming and funny way, you can't help but love them.

After their pregnant fellow musician and friend Felicity Groom had her car  stolen, Kevin Parker, the band's singer, and the new bass player Cam Avery (frontman of the Perth band The Growl) found a very ingenious way to help her. Joined by Cam Parkin of another local band, Cosmo Gets, on keyboards, they teamed up and created a new band for a one-off benefit concert on the same evening, to raise money for Groom's new car. They posted the following announcement on their

As soon as you create your first somewhat modest music blog, you are bombarded by follows and messages from young bands and musicians, filled with links where you can  check out their music and like their pages. Some you will like, write about and post their songs, some you won't, and some you won't even have time to hear at all. In this day and age of music being distributed in new ways on the Internet and fed by the power of dozens of social networking sites, it has become very easy to find music you would never have been able to hear before. With the mainstream full of shallow and mediocre music,  it is a real pleasure to discover new and undiscovered music through these platforms. One of these hidden gems is Ryan Campos.

Soft Bullets’ EP out + a free download and a live video

Soft Bullets logoFor those unfamiliar with Soft Bullets, Chris Wall from ex Air Traffic is one half of the band. Air Traffic is another one of my favourite bands ever that split way too quickly. You can imagine how thrilled I was to find out Chris is still making music, even though it is not as cheerful and rocky as in his previous band. The other part of the band is the Portland (USA) musician Dan Capaldi.

Soft Bullets just released their Hyperreality EP on November 12th on Township Music.  Let's hear a few songs from it. The first one is the title song, which you can also download for free on Soundcloud.

The tracklist of the EP is as follows:

History: A Memory
Another Chance
